Photo Judging 2014: The countdown begins …..

Posted by on Jul 27, 2014 in News | 2 comments

With 93 cameras returned from our earlier hand-out of 105 at St Paul's Cathedral the other week, we know it would not be an easy task for our 6 judges to decide on the 20 photographs for the exhibition in October. Out of this, 13 of the photographs will be featured in our 2015 Cafe Art/RPS photography calendar. We are extremely grateful again to Christie's for allowing us the use of one of their Boardrooms at their main auction house at Kings Street in St James's for this year's judging. Located on the 5th floor and away from prying eyes, it was an ideal location for our judges to concentrate on this laborious, and yet exciting, task ahead. We are extremely...

Christie's held their second annual Arts Assembly which took place this week simultaneously at their major offices  in New York, London and Hong Kong. Its aims are to raise the level of awareness among their 2,000 employees about what arts organizations are out there and how they can get involved. Christie's employees have eight hours of paid time off for volunteering annually and this event is an opportunity for them to foster dialogue and ignite long-term relationships with the many different organisations present. Cafe Art is pleased to say that we were invited back to this special event for the second year running, sharing a platform with such amazing...

Cafe Art welcomes Ezo Bistro!

When you are next in Barking and dying for a quiet place to put your feet up while sipping a great cup of espresso with just the right amount of crema, then head to Ezo Bistro located within the station. Inspired by the artwork they saw hanging in one of our partner Cafes in north London, and connected with the cause behind the initiative, Iliyan and Ina decided to be a part of Cafe Art's growing family of big-hearted cafe owners. So they contacted us to ask if we would like to help decorate their new cafe with some beautiful artworks. Would we ever say no to that??? Armed with works of art from artists representing most of London's homelessness...

How to get creative under one roof …

Posted by on Jul 14, 2014 in News | Comments Off on How to get creative under one roof …

The recipe is simple: 1. Get a few artists together 2. Hang up some beautiful artwork in an open atrium 3. Set up a stand  with lots of information 4. Add some delegates, and mix them well for 2 days That's what Cafe Art did. And all thanks to Homeless Link for inviting us to join them at their annual national housing & support conference for UK homelessness professionals. Entitled 'Under One Roof', it was held in Hinckley near Leicester on 8th & 9th July 2014 with over 250 delegates representing UK homelessness organisations attending.  The aim of the conference is to address the issues of most concern to accommodation and support...

Tour de London?

Posted by on Jul 7, 2014 in News | Comments Off on Tour de London?

The Tour de France passes so close to St Paul's Cathedral this afternoon we're not sure we will be able to get the Cafe Art cameras back! One hundred and five cameras were handed out last week in the 2nd Cafe Art Photography contest - most at St Paul's Cathedral with The Royal Photographic Society on Wednesday. The rest were handed out later at smaller workshops at art groups run by homelessness sector organisations from all over London, including St Mungo's Broadway, Crisis, Providence Row, The Connection at St Martins-in-the Fields, SHP, Holy Cross and 240 Project. Empowering participants New to the contest this year are participatory photography ideas...
