Horse Latitudes: An Audience with Chris Wilson

On Monday 29th September, a lucky few had the very rare chance to listen to Chris Wilson read from his unbelievably hard-hitting, but vividly poetic memoir Horse Latitudes. The book blew Anne-Celine Jaeger away so much so that she have taken it upon herself to become Chris Wilson's agent. Chris is a former prison inmate and drug addict. He's been referred to as "the Nietzsche of narcotics", to Anne-Celine he's the real Million Little Pieces. His writing is raw and utterly unapologetic. Chris is also a very talented artist and 16 shocking and thought provoking, but yet beautiful, colour plates of his paintings accompany the text in the book. His works...

184 have transformed their kitchen area into a Recovery Cafe that will be run by a group of keen volunteers who have completed their training at SHP. Their aim is for the Cafe to form the heart of Camden's recovery community, and be a safe place where clients, volunteers and staff alike can enjoy delicious hot drinks and sandwiches. And if all goes according to plan, the cafe will eventually become a self-sustaining social enterprise. The Recovery Cafe (located at 184 Royal College Street, NW1) will be open to anyone in Camden with experience of recovery from 12noon to 3pm, Monday to Friday. And what does one do when one opens a new Cafe with empty wall space...

Coffee + Art @ E7

Posted by on Sep 24, 2014 in News | Comments Off on Coffee + Art @ E7

What else does one do when you have the artworks up in an entire cafe? Simple! You invite as many of the contributing artists together for a relaxing cup of coffee and to feel proud of what they have achieved. That's what Cafe Art did as a way to say thank you to them for sharing their wonderful works with the general public at Coffee7! Not only that, they got a chance to thank Daniel and his Team (and Mick, the owner) too for this opportunity.  According to them, the public loves the exhibition as it's so unique, different and refreshing - so head down there yourself to check it out, and grab a great cup of latte along the way...

Connecting hearts with art

We are really happy that we managed to sell 2 pieces of artworks within a week for the artists. The first one was 'After Margate/Tracy Emin' painted by John Sheehy which caught the eye of Mr Phil Baird when he visited John's solo exhibition "The Colours Choose Me" the other week. Sadly, the exhibition was un-installed by the time he decided to purchase it. So he dropped Cafe Art an email. Nothing was too difficult - we arrange a meeting for Phil to meet up with John in a cafe in town. And with the artwork. John had a chance to explain to Phil what inspired him to paint it. And Phil got an opportunity to tell John why he liked it. Simple! The second big-hearted...

Collective: A nucleus of creative talent …

We held a simple get-together at Omnibus this week to thank the artists for sharing their wonderful artwork with the wider public at the Omnibus 'Collective' exhibition. We made ourselves cups of coffee and brought along some cup cakes too, and was joined by our dear friends Jennifer & Laura, as well as Claire from a nearby St Mungo's Broadway hostel and staff from Omnibus - thank you! Simon, the curator, did a grand job of taking the artists round and getting them to talk about the meaning behind each piece. It was a great experience for everyone to find out what inspired them to draw such beautiful art, and to share their thoughts and knowledge as a...
