Allan Miller

Allan Miller has participated in the MYLONDON contest for several years and he also helps with the selling of the calendar in Spitalfields Market and in Elizabeth line stations. Originally from Scotland he does not have permanent accommodation and uses earnings from selling calendars and cards and other part time jobs to get by.

Allan Miller decided to take this shot of a Royal Mail pillar box on Dean Street as it was a simple but clear symbol of London. He took a close-up of the stickers near the top of the box and only a few hours later returned to take the whole pillar box. "I liked the view on the left - it gives you a little bit of depth down the street." Pillar boxes show the royal cypher of the reigning monarch at the time. It is possible to see VR for Queen Victoria all the way to ERII for the late Queen Elizabeth II shown om this "Type C" pillar box.
