Nisha Zala was awarded the top photo prizes by both the judges and the public, and her photo featuring her two support dogs is showcased on the cover of the calendar. Nisha is highlighted in a recent documentary focusing on another project participant, Wayne Chin, where she briefly discusses her experiences and journey to overcome homelessness resulting from domestic abuse.
Thanks to those who pre-ordered the calendars and cards a few months ago and Londoners who have continued to support our participants since the launch day on 10 October, the beginning of our MYLONDON 2025 calendar selling season has been fantastic.
We are regularly selling in Elizabeth line stations (Ealing Broadway, Canary Wharf, Paddington and Woolwich), in Spitalfields Market and in supporting corporate office buildings.
The photographers earn a 25% commission from each of their greetings cards sold as do the vendors for selling them. The vendors earn 50% of the sale price of the calendars (the photographers were paid prize money for their photos last month).
From 2012 onwards, we have distributed over £300,000 to vendors and photographers. We consider ourselves to possibly be the most generous small charity in the UK in this aspect. Our payment model for vendors is inspired by the Big Issue, the largest homeless social enterprise. Similar to the Big Issue, we provide a helping hand rather than a handout. By empowering individuals to sell their own work with dignity, we aim to create a positive impact.
Our aim in founding MYWORLD as a charity was to assist other cities in implementing similar projects. This year, we provided assistance to Mumbai once more (the competition is currently ongoing), and last month we supported MEIN MÜNCHEN in Germany.
Thanks to the generous donation of 300 Fujifilm QuickSnap cameras by David Honey, we were able to aid Mumbai and Munich by providing cameras. The team in Germany was led by Matthias Müller and his wife Eva - long-time MYLONDON calendar buyers! They approached a local day centre helping rough sleepers and we had a very good session with their staff who helped us sign out the cameras and collect hem. in again.
If you are interested in buying a Munich calendar please let us know. There will be calendars available for sale from us but also from Munich directly (€17.50 plus postage).
We highly recommend watching the new 9-minute documentary by Tom Sweetland if you haven't already seen it!
