This row of traditional phone boxes is in Broad Court, in the Covent Garden area of Westminster. The K2 Telephone Box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and first appeared in 1926. In the following nine years some 1,700 were installed in the UK, mostly in London. Just over 200 remain on British streets. Zakia Chowdhury said she chose to photograph the telephone boxes because they are “an eminent symbol of London architecture.” Zakia is a member of 240Project, an arts and health activity centre for people affected by homelessness and exclusion in West London and also the RPS Cafe Art Photography Mentoring Group. Last year her photo of Jama Elmi was the cover photo of the MYLONDON calendar. 2025 MYLONDON calendar (June image)
